Musik in der ‚Lebenswelt’: Immaterielle Dimensionen der Musik-Kultur von Deutschen in (und aus) den südosteuropäischen Siedlungsgebieten

Internationale Arbeitstagung im Rahmen des interkulturellen Forschungsprojektes "Deutsche Musikkultur im östlichen Europa – Musikgeschichtsschreibung und Erinnerungskulturen“"

Im Zentrum der Arbeitstagung stehen Erscheinungsformen von Musik als einer (gelebten) kulturellen Praxis, die vor dem Hintergrund theoretischer Überlegungen zum Spannungsfeld von ‚Lebenswelt’ und ‚Monument’ diskutiert werden sollen. Das spezifische Tagungsinteresse richtet sich auf historiografische und erinnerungskulturelle Dimensionen der Musik-Kultur von Deutschen in und aus dem südosteuropäischen Kulturraum – einem von ethnischer Vielfalt gekennzeichneten Szenario mit wechselvoller Geschichte.

Dabei sollen die donauschwäbischen Siedlungsgebiete bzw. Erinnerungsgemeinschaften besondere Berücksichtigung finden. Ziel ist es, im Sinne einer Bestandsaufnahme exemplarische historische, zeitgeschichtliche wie gegenwartsbezogene Archiv- und Feldforschungen zusammenzuführen, die Einblicke in regional- resp. gruppenspezifische Musik-Praktiken und -Diskurse geben, und zudem nach Möglichkeiten der Geschichts­schreibung sowie nach Modellen einer musealen Re-/Präsentation des Kultur- und Migrationsguts Musik zu fragen.

Bei den Beiträgen, die wir hiermit erbitten, ist uns an einer großen Vielfalt der thematischen und methodischen Perspektiven gelegen. Diese könnten – auch in Form interdisziplinärer Vernetzungen – beispielsweise folgende Punkte berühren:

Fundus: Gegenstände und Quellen (u. a. Archivalien, Bild- und Tondokumente, Video-Plattformen im Internet), die zeit- und regionalspezifische Phänomene dokumentieren und Aspekte der Musik-Kultur(en) der jeweiligen Siedlungsgemeinschaft rekonstruierbar machen; Situationen und Kontexte musikalischen Handelns und Erlebens; kulturelle Bedeutungszuweisungen sowie z. B. religiöse oder ideologische Funktionalisierungen von Musik;

Feld: Studien, die Einblicke in die gegenwärtige Musik-Kultur der deutschen Minderheiten in Südosteuropa bzw. der jeweiligen Erinnerungsgemeinschaften in der ‚Neuen Heimat’ geben; musik- und erinnerungskulturelle Äußerungsfelder heute (von Heimattagen bis zur HipHop-Kultur sowie in spezifischen Rundfunk- und Fernseh-Formaten oder auch in Konzepten für das Web 2.0);

Mikro- und Alltagsgeschichte: Fragen des Interethnischen und Interkulturellen, die bspw. in den Strukturen der direkten Lebensumgebung einer Dorf- oder Stadtgemeinschaft lesbar werden (Kontakt-Felder, Identitätskonstruktionen, Ausdifferenzierungen von Symbolsystemen usw.); Rekonstruktionen der (historischen) Musik-Kultur resp. Klang-Landschaft eines Ortes;

Museum: Probleme und Möglichkeiten einer Präsentation und Vermittlung musikkultureller Zusammenhänge im Ausstellungskontext (materielle und immaterielle Dimensionen); musikalische/auditive Erinnerungsorte (z. B. spezifisches Liedgut, Hymnen oder Tänze, der ‚Klang der Heimat’) und deren mediale Re/Inszenierung; Diskurse um die kulturelle Pflege bzw. Archivie­rung/Musealisierung immaterieller Kulturgüter (u. a. im Umfeld der UNESCO);

Theoriebildungen: die Konstitution verschiedenartiger Dokumentformen als Medien der Musik/Geschichts­schreibung (immaterielle, materielle resp. medialisierte Erscheinungsformen musikkultureller Praktiken und Diskurse); Methoden musikbezogener Feldforschungen/Oral History; Musik/Sound und Erinnerung; Konzeptionen ‚auditiver Kultur(en)’; Ansätze zu einer ‚Archäologie des Immateriellen’ bzw. der ‚Lebenswelt’.

Die Tagung ist formal offen konzipiert. Sie zielt auf eine workshop-ähnliche, interdisziplinäre Auseinandersetzung mit dem angerissenen Phänomenfeld. Die Referate sollen in der Regel eine Dauer von 20 Minuten nicht überschreiten; ihre Publikation (auch in erweiterter Form) ist vorgesehen.

Alle Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler, die sich mit einem Beitrag beteiligen möchten, werden gebeten, bis zum 21. Juli 2010 einen entsprechenden Themenvorschlag (mit Abstract) einzusenden. – Tagungssprachen sind Deutsch und Englisch.

Music in the ‘Life World’: Immaterial dimensions of the music culture of Germans
in (and from) the South-East European settlement areas

International workshop within the scope of the intercultural research project
”German Music Culture in Eastern Europe – Music History Writing and Remembrance Cultures“

At the centre of this symposium are different forms of music as a (lived) cultural practice, which are to be discussed against the backdrop of theoretical thoughts on the tension field between ‘life world’ and ‘monument’. The specific interest of the workshop focuses on historiographic and remembrance-cultural dimensions of the music culture of Germans in and from the South-East European cultural region – an area reflecting rich ethnic diversity which looks back over a very eventful history. In this context, particular consideration is to be accorded to the Danube-Swabian settlement areas and remembrance communities.

The aim is, in a stock taking-like form, to assemble exemplary historic archive and field research studies – relating to periods in the past as well as to the present – which provide an insight into regional and/or group-specific musical practices and discourses and, furthermore, to ask about the possibilities of historiography as well as models of a museal re-/presentation of music as a cultural and migration asset.

In the contributions that we are requesting here, a large variety of topical and methodical perspectives is important for us. These could – also in the form of interdisciplinary linkages – touch on some of the following points:

Resources: Objects and sources (e.g. archive materials, picture and sound documents, video platforms in the internet), which document specific historical and regional phenomena and make it possible to reconstruct aspects of music culture(s) of the relevant community settlement; situations and contexts of musical actions and experience; cultural allocation of significance as well as, for example, religious or ideological functionalisation of music;

Field: Studies which provide an insight into present-day music culture of the German minorities in South-Eastern Europe and of the relevant remembrance communities formed in the ‘new homeland’; fields and phenomena of music and remembrance culture today (from folklore events to Hip-Hop culture, in specific radio and television formats or as concepts for Web 2.0);

Micro- and everyday history: Questions relating to interethnic and intercultural aspects which become recognisable, for example, in the structures of the direct living environment of a village or town community (contact fields, identity constructions, differentiations between symbol systems etc.); reconstructions of the (historical) music-culture or soundscape of a specific place or site;

Museum: Problems and possibilities of a presentation and communication of music cultural fields in exhibition contexts (material as well as immaterial dimensions); musical/auditive sites of memory (e.g. specific songs, hymns or dances, the ‘sound of Heimat [homeland]’) and their medial re/production; discourses on the cultural preservation or archiving/musealization of intangible cultural assets (i.e. in the context of UNESCO);

Theory formation: The constitution of different document forms as media of music/history writing (immaterial, material resp. mediated forms of appearance of music-cultural practices and discourses); methods of music-related field research/oral history; music/sound and remembrance; concepts of ‚auditive culture(s)’; consideration on an ‘archaeology of the immaterial’ or of the ‘life world’.

The formal concept of the symposium is open. It aims at a workshop like and interdisciplinary way of discussing the drafted phenomena field. Papers should generally not exceed 20 minutes; their publication soon thereafter (also in extended form) is planned. All scientists who would like to contribute are requested to submit a corresponding topic recommendation (with Abstract) by 21st July 2010. – Conference languages are German and English.
