The Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM), Vienna welcomes applications  for its  2nd Young Scientists Forum (YSF) on Central and South East Europe on  Cultural Changes in Central- and South East Europe after 1989. The forum will take place October 28-30, 2010. Deadline for application: February 22, 2010.

 Symposium Springer Schlößl

A symposion has been organized on "Jewish Migration to the Metropolises of Europe, 1848-1918. A comparative Perspective" in the Jewish Museum Vienna and the Springer Academy. The second part of the symposium will take place at www.springer-schloessl.at. You can download the program folder here.

The Institute of Human Sciences (IWM, Vienna) has launched two invitations - one for a lecture by Marci Shore (Assistant Professor of History, Yale University; IWM Visiting Fellow) The Self Laid Bare: Phenomenological Encounters in Central Europe on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 18 pm in the Library of the IWM, and another for a discussion within the series "Umweltpolitik und Solidarität" with Peter Rauschenberger (co-founder of the Green Party Lehet Más a Politika, Hungary) entitled Mobilizing for Green Politics in Hungary. Comments will be delivered by Gerhard Jordan, member of the Stearing Group of Green East-West Dialogue (GEWD) on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 18 pm in the Library of the IWM.

In Lesesaal des Josephinum (Währinger Straße 25, A-1090 Wien) on Mai 7, 2009 at 18 p.m. c.t., Dr. Daniela Sechel (Dept. of History, CEU, Budapest - Postdoctoral Fellow, Inst. f. Geschichte, Univ. Wien) will held a lecture entitled Medical Police: the Viennese Discourse and its reception in Hungary and Transylvania (1770-1830).

Medicine within and between the Empires (Habsburg and Ottoman) between the 17th and 20th Centuries is the title of the symposium organized by the Collections of the Medical University of Vienna,the RSCSE Working Group in the History of Racial Sciences and Biomedicine in Central and Southeast Europe (Oxford Brookes University), the Austrian Society for Social History of Medicine, and the Department of Anthropology, Natural History Museum Vienna, to be held November 20-22, 2008 in Josephinum (Medical University of Vienna).
