Conference on Author-Translators
[ Konferenz | Conference ]
On 28 June - 1 July 2010 the Department of Modern Languages at Swansea University will host a conference on The Author-Translator in the European Literary Tradition. For full programme and registration, please see http://www.author-translator.net.
Keynote speakers: Susan Bassnett, David Constantine, Lawrence Venuti This major international conference seeks to reassess the importance of translation for European writers – both well-known and less familiar – from antiquity to the present day. It will explore why authors translate, what they translate and how they translate, as well as the links between an author’s translation work and his or her own writing. There will be almost eighty panels, on topics ranging from ‘Theories of Self-Translation’ and ‘Translation and Creativity’ to ‘Romantic Pseudo-Translation’ and ‘Translating Children’s Literature’. The conference will thus map out the phenomenon of the author-translator in Europe on a large scale for the first time.
Conference Organizers: Hilary Brown & Duncan Large, Department of Modern Languages, Swansea University, author-translator@swansea.ac.uk.
