Sigrid Janisch (Wien): Was ist ein Vampir im Habsburger Reich des 18./19. Jahrhunderts?

Sigrid Janisch (Vienna): What is a Vampire in the 18th and 19th Habsburg Monarchy? A Compoarison on the basis of Ecyclopedia

The contemporary vampire image differs considerably from the one of the 18th and 19the centuries. The paper focusses on the changes of  single aspects of this image and its development as a whole. Even from 1700 to 1900 the vampire image was arranged in diverse ways, as the analysis of encoclepedias published within this era will show. Apart from narratives and definitions of the vampire social history will play a role: how was the vampire introduced to philosophy (i.e. Voltaire) and how was that mirrored by the society?
