The "A. Philippide" Institute of Romanian Philology - the Iasi Branch of the Romanian Academy and the "A. Philippide" Cultural Association, Iasi, Romania, invite for their 8th international symposium The Romanian Cultural Diaspora - Linguistic, Literary and Ethno-folkloric Paradigms to be held on 5-7 November 2009. Deadline for submissions: March 22, 2009.

The symposium will have several sections focusing on the contemporary migratory phenomenon approached from different angles (cultural, educational, academic, spiritual as well as economic and social). There will also be a section meant to debate the problems encountered by the Romanian departments in foreign universities, by the Romanian cultural associations as well as by Romanian schools and churches for the diaspora as main institutions engaged in the process of promoting Romanian culture abroad.

A workshop entitled "Cultural Migration vs. the Culture of Migration - Contemporary Circuits, Practices and Metamorphoses of Romanian Migration" will be part of the symposium, too. The languages of the papers: Romanian, English or French. A book will be published with the papers delivered at the symposium. The participation fee is 45 Euros; the attendance without presentation of papers is free of charge. The fee will be paid in the "A. Philippide" Cultural Association account. The participation fee includes the publication of the book with the papers delivered at the symposium, the expenses for sending the book to the participants, certificates of attendance, refreshments during breaks, the cocktail reception, a guided trip by bus across the city of Iasi and to the monasteries on the hills surrounding the city.

Travel and accommodation expenses will be supplied by the participants. You are kindly asked to send the title and the abstract of your paper to the Organizing Committee by 22 March 2009. Presentations should not exceed 20 minutes. You are expected to send an abstract of 20 lines or more accompanied by a (basic) reference list. You will receive the decision of the Scientific Committee by 15 April 2009. All the participants are kindly asked to bring books written or edited by them and journals with their articles in order to be displayed at the symposium exhibition. The program of the symposium will be posted on the site of the "A. Philippide" Institute of Romanian Philology. Additional details will be provided once you have completed the registration process.
