The German Studies Association (GSA) in Oakland, California organizes its 34th Annual Conference from October 7th to 10th, 2010, dealing with the topic of DEFA Cinema. Deadline for submissions is January 31st. 

In recent years, scholarship about East Germany's film company DEFA has undergone a cultural turn. Barbara Eichinger, co-editor of the 2009 essay collection "Film im Sozialismus - die DEFA" (see description below), acknowledges a shift in GDR scholarship towards "transnationale und historiografische Perspektiven auf die kulturellen, soziologischen und politischen Gegebenheiten" (20). Among other conferences, the Fifth Biennial Summer Film Institute by the DEFA Film Library at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst in 2009 looked at new approaches of "Rewriting (East) German Cinema: Issues in Film Methodology and Historiography".

is the topic of the next NECS (European Network for Cinema and Media Studies) conference to be held in Budapest from June 19 through 21, 2008.

Zum anderen sollte man die Möglichkeit nicht verpassen, einen 1 - 2-seitigen Abstract für die zwischen 6. und 8. September 2007 im schönen Luxembourg veranstaltete Konferenz Travelling Cinema in Europe / Wanderkino in Europa mit neuer Deadline 1. März einzusenden (Näheres hiezu auch im Editor-Weblog sowie auf H-Soz-u-Kult).
 

Das Dreiland-Filmfestival - eine Plattform für junge Regisseure aus Polen, Tschechien und Deutschland - nimmt noch bis zum 15.01.07 Filmanmeldungen entgegen. Die Filme dürfen nicht länger als
30 min. sein und müssen mit englischen Untertiteln versehen sein. Das Festival findet von 19. - 22. April 2007 in Görlitz/Zgorzelec (Kulturhautpstadt Europas 2010) statt. Bis zum 15. Februar 2007 sollten die Filme eingereicht werden.
