9th INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL JIHLAVA (CZ)
25. - 30. 10. 2005
Festival of original documentary cinema.
Prestigious and exceptional, the only festival of its kind in Central Europe.

Also this year will competitive section called Between the Seas present a large cinematic mosaic featuring the most interesting projects from Austria, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. An international jury will then decide which nominated film to award the Best Central European Documentary Prize.
 

The festival's main accompanying event is the public East European Forum (Pitching Forum) - an opportunity for documentary filmmakers and commissioning editors to meet and negotiate contracts. The Pitching Forum is an educational project - the only of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe - designed to pave the way for international co-productions for domestic and eastern European directors and to teach them how to promote their projects on the European film market.

During the festival days, Jihlava turns into more than just a screening venue - it becomes a truly vibrant centre of inspiring encounters, discussions, and confrontations - among films, between films and spectators, and between spectators themselves. The event abounds in post-screening discussions, conversations in cinema lobbies, and articles in the excellent festival catalogue and newsletter (the daily guide through the cinemas and the film canisters piled up inside). There are book readings, concerts, theatre performances and other happenings for eyes sore from viewing.

Entry Requirements:

• Completed and signed ENTRY FORM
• Provide 1 VHS (PAL or NTSC) or DVD copy
• Year of production must be 2004 or later
• Submission deadline: JUNE 30, 2005
• Enclose director’s biography and filmography.

Rules:

• Due to the large number of submissions, preview copies will not be returned.
• By submitting this material you agree with Jihlava IDFF’s regulations and acknowledge IDFF’s right to use the preview material or its copy for non-commercial purposes only.
• Please keep Jihlava IDFF informed of address/phone or email changes.
• Filmmakers will be notified by September 30, 2005.

Screening Requirements:

• Enclose 4 color stills (A4, A5 format) or digital images (tiff, gif, jpeg at least 300 dpi, no larger than 1MB). Publicity material, posters etc., is welcome. All must be received by September 10, 2005.
• Print / tape of a selected film must arrive in Jihlava by October 20, 2005.
• Film must be in English, German, French or Russian or in original version with subtitles in one of these languages. Dialogue list is required, English subtitles are preferred.
• Please note that the following formats cannot be accepted : DigiBeta, DVCam and Mini DV.

Shipping requirements:

• Jihlava IDFF pays for one way only, if not agreed otherwise.
• Jihlava IDFF will return the print within 4 weeks after the festival and recipients will get a dispatch notice, if not agreed otherwise.
• The festival will contact you about the details concerning shipment.
• Prints / tape are insured as long as they are in the festival possession.
