It's been a while since I last browsed the TOL website. Just now I realized that they are not up to date: when you look for news on Southeastern Europe, you can further chose a country. Well, one of these countries is still called "Serbia and Montenegro".

The Montenegro-myth is kept alive, as I realized when browsing through Globe & Mail's Balkans series. Interestingly, the legends of Montenegro's tradition in indepence and "freedom" which is listed at the end of the article Will Montenegro be Europe's newest state? by Doug Saunders, chief of the Globe and Mail's London-based European Bureau, under the title Split Decision are thwarted by a statement by Nebojša Medojević (Group for Change):

Anders gefragt: Worauf referieren schon Zahlen?

The Montenegrin media landscape has been a topic at the past conference Emergence3, presented by Koča Pavlović. When he told us about the manifold connections between media owners, political parties, and money sources in Montenegro, he did not forget to name the politically oriented projects he is involved, too, as, for example, the Group for Changes.

Finally, since the conference on "Borders and Border Spaces in Austria-Hungary, 1867-1918" is getting closer, I had to write an abstract about what I am maybe presenting. Well, here it comes, although in its present general form it is more a sort of a summary of my research interests than of an actual paper.

The article is not brand-new, yet, it firstly gives a speaking example of the haunting fantasies of a balkanized back-drop into pre-civilisation and barbarism, and the emergence of phantasms.

I spend these days "in Montenegro", that is, I have to read between 2 and 3 travelogues and treatises on Montengro every day, in order to be prepared for the final conference of our research project on Cores and Peripheries of Austria-Hungary, 1867-1918 in January 2006.

It is time to start this new topic which I announced already 2 months ago. It is the historical Montengro of the 19th and 20th century which I am professionally interested in, but I start the new topic with current affairs, nevertheless.
