10 DFG-funded doctoral research studentships are offered by the International Research Training Group "Baltic Borderlands: Shifting Boundaries of Mind and Culture in the Borderlands of the Baltic Sea Region" with the starting date on 1st January 2010 (subject to approval from the DFG). Value of the studentship: € 13,236 p.a. (consisting of monthly: € 1,000 maintenance grant plus a € 103 grant for books and other materials). Application deadline: November 4, 2009.

The Institute for Advanced Study, School of Historical Studies is an independent private institution founded in 1930 to create a community of scholars focused on intellectual inquiry, free from teaching and other university obligations. Scholars from around the world come to the Institute to pursue their own research. Those chosen are offered membership for a set period and a stipend. The Institute provides access to extensive resources including offices, libraries, subsidized restaurant and housing facilities, and some secretarial services. Application deadline: November 1 2009.
