Friends of Europe, a Brussels-based think-tank for EU policy analysis and debate, is organising a high-level conference on Bringing the Balkans into mainstream Europe in Brussels on 8 December 2005.

This conference will analyse the current EU-Balkan relations and address a wide audience of EU policymakers, government representatives, Business leaders, NGO representatives, academia, civil society, and members of the international press.

The list of speakers include high-ranking politicians from the Balkans and the EU as well as two members of the International Commission on the Balkans (cf. their report, published in April 2005).

Two short reflection papers by Carl Bildt, former Swedish Prime Minister and UN Special Envoy to the Balkans, and by Ivan Krastev, Research Director of the Centre for
Liberal Strategies in Sofia, are already online.

Friends of Europe had organised a similar event in December 2004 on The Politics of the New Balkan Economy.
