The Centre for Area Studies at the University of Leipzig invites applications for 8 positions for post-docs (researcher, TV-L 13, for a period of 4 years, starting as soon as possible). Deadline for applications: November 30, 2009.

The recently founded CAS focuses on the ways in which different world regions react to challenges of increasing global connectedness. The CAS invites applications for projects that take a comparative approach to analysing political and cultural changes in a globalising world since the late 18th century. Main research fields include: Popular culture and globalisation in East Asia; Migration flows and commodity chains; Political organisation beyond statehood in Latin America and Eastern Europe; Forms of macroregional integration in the Islamic World; South Asia and Latin America in International Organisations; Colonialism and postcolonial orders in Africa and Asia; the spatial turn and its impact on area studies.

Prerequisites: doctoral degree in either an area study or in a social science or humanities subject with particular focus on the area to be investigated; an excellent record of publications; willingness to engage in a highly interdisciplinary collaborative research centre; a 1000-word project proposal fitting into the general research programme of the Centre (see for a detailed description www.uni-leipzig.de/cas); proof of Proficiency in English and in main languages used in the regions under investigation.
