Music, Conflict and the State

The Free-Floater research group Music, Conflict and the State, based at the Department of Musicology of the Georg August University in Göttingen, is seeking to fill the following positions from the earliest possible date, for two years with the possibility of extension:
1 post-doctoral researcher (full-time) and 1 doctoral student (part-time).

Application deadline: August 4, 2008.

Depending on academic qualifications, renumeration for both positions will be at salary grade 13 TV-L of the German federal tarif scale for public service employees.

The research group Music, Conflict and the State pursues historical, comparative and theoretical work aimed at understanding the role of music in promoting and prolonging conflict, including propaganda for war and incitement to genocide. Duties of the successful candidates will include

- pursuing an independent, historical/comparative research project on an agreed area,

- contributing to the theoretical work of the group,

- for the post-doctoral position also: undergraduate teaching responsibilities (2 hours per week in semester).

The working languages of the group are German and English.
