[ War crimes and the ICTY ]

An article of M. Sadovic for IWPR wonders whether showing potential war crimes on public TV serves justice and/or the victims' interests. A video had been released on Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian TV on August 5th, the 11th anniversary of the "Operation Storm" in the Croatian Krajina:

It allegedly shows members of the Croatian army’s Black Mamba unit and the Bosnian Muslim special squad Hamza harassing Serb refugees attempting to flee the Krajina during the Operation "Oluja" (Storm). A Serb man who was sitting down with raised hands is apparently shot dead (cf. reportage on B92, 8.8.2006 and article in the TAZ, 10.8.2006). The B92 website provides a direct link to the video material (avi, 1,45 MB or real, 32,7MB).

A few days later another video was broadcasted: it allegedly shows the general A. Dudakovic ordering Bosnian Muslim soldiers to burn down Serb villages in the Bosnian Krajina in September 1995 (cf. Guardian, 9.8.2006).

The ICTY, the Croatian and the BiH government are currently examining the videos. The Croatian government has already declared that the first video does not clearly show the involvement of Croatian soldiers.
