[ Sprache | Language ]

The Split daily Slobodna Dalmacija published recently an interview with one of the most eminent Croatian linguists, Prof. Dr. Ivo Pranjković.

Prof. Pranjković advanced an interesting opinion, that Serbian and Croatian (as well as Bosnian and Montenegrin) are standard varieties of one single language. He himself admitted that such an opinion was not currently popular in the Croatian linguistics which had only been trying to distinguish Croatian from Serbian (mostly in the lexicon) over the past 15 years instead of presenting the language situation in former Yugoslavia in an objective way.

He also called all those who represent another opinions to present their arguments.
