Two exciting festivals are going to be held in Belgrade: From February 22nd – March 2nd, 2008 the 36th Belgrade International Film Festival FEST (with the motto: Go for FEST), which is one of the most important film festivals in the South-Eastern Europe, and from 25th – 30th March, 2008 the Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival (this years motto: ALL good things…), which is an annual competitive film festival of works of art in the field of documentary and short film, recorded in both film and video (electronic) technology.

FEST was established as non-competitive film festival in 1971. Now in its 36th year, the event was originally designed to combat cultural isolation and xenophobia in the art world and to connect local Eastern European Cinema with the international film scene.

FEST presents the best new feature films of the previous years and the selection is based on film programs of the world’s distinguished film festivals: Cannes, Toronto, Venice, Pusan, Karlovy Vary etc. It will screen more than 75 films from all over the world this year. Official premiere programs will consist of several program entities: "Horizons", "Discoveries", "Facts and Puzzles", a special program of contemporary Russian film and, for the third consecutive year – a competition segment of the Festival comprising a program of eight films – "Europe out of Europe", as well as the business part of the Festival – "B2B" (Belgrade to Business).

The Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival presents selected local and international documentary and short film productions, contributing to the development of the film industry, supporting creative artists, contributing to the development and popularization of the documentary and short film. The Festival shows domestic and foreign documentary and short films as well as the films not earlier registered for competition. The National Competition excludes the films shown on TV, and the International the films older than two years.
The Festival program includes:
  • National Competition (National Competition has four categories: Documentary film, Animated film, Short film and Experimental film)
  • International Competition and
  • Special programs (non-competitive programs, retrospectives, exhibitions, seminars, workshop).
