Almost an year after the launch of the pilot project of 36 Monkeys”, an Organization for Contemporary Alternative Art and Culture, ProText, which I have presented in our blog (here and here) in its “German” hypostasis in Sofia and the follow-up “tour” in Russe, Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo and Varna, it is due time for its next installment – ProText 2: The Battle Continues.

The second part of the project for onstage performance readings of contemporary European drama in alternative and non-theatrical spaces focuses on France and is held as a discreet celebration of May ‘68’s anniversary and as a testimony of the  mission and actions of the team – the young directors Gergana Dimitrova, Vassilena Radeva and Mladen Alexiev. Not surprisingly the venue, chosen for the performances is the Central building of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.

The programme includes the following plays:

  • Intrusion by Frederic Sonntag (more info here)
  • "Pas Bouger" (“Not Moving”) by Emmanuel Darley (more info here and in wikipedia)
  •  Alpenstock by Rémi De Vos (more info here and in wikipedia)
  • Theatre sans animaux (“Theater without Animals”) by Jean-Michel Ribes (more info here and in wikipedia)

The selection has been made with the guidance of Laurent Muhleisen, the drama theorist, translator and artistic advisor to the Comédie Française. The translation of the plays in Bulgarian has been made by Veneta Doicheva, Natasha Kolevska and Svetlana Pancheva.

The second part of ProText has been made possible with the financial and organizational assistance of Institut Français de Sofia and the Ministry of Culture and with the cooperation of the Francophone Centre at Sofia University and the University Theater @lma @lter.

Unfortunately I have missed the first performance - “Intrusion” by Frederic Sonntag last weekend, because thewinter has surprised us”*, again and the city was practically blocked, but I have made arrangements not to miss the second one: "Pas Bouger" (“Not Moving”) by Emmanuel Darley, which will be presented on 29.11. and 30.11. at 19.00 in the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” (Central building, 15 Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd.), the North wing, 4th Floor at the Francophone Centre.

* Every year, despite the usual early and accurate forecasts, the winter “surprises” the Sofia municipality, which is totally unprepared for it’s inevitable, but as it seams, out-of-the-blue coming. Sometimes it feels as an intrusion of a pagan cyclic time within the linear, be it secular or Christian, timeline.

Welcome to the [Sofia] weblog, a part of the Kakanien Revisited weblog network. The Team - Dimiter, Assen and Mira - all three PhD students in the Department of History and Theory of Culture at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" will try to create an image - although sometimes a faceted and incoherent one - of the Bulgarian academia, culture, ongoing events, ideas, realities and virtual spaces. All of you - our readers - are warmheartedly invited to join us in this endeavor with your comments and suggestions.
