ICAM-MED First Regional Meeting in Istanbul

ICAM-MED work group is organizing its first meeting in Istanbul
between
the
dates 6-8 October 2005. This is a special group that has both new
members and
ICAM (The International Confederation of Architectural Museums
www.icam-web.org) members.

ICAM-MED aims to organize a professional network of architectural
archives,
centers, museums and schools to share research, exhibitions, and
publications
and to promote preservation and the better understanding of
architectural
heritage within the Mediterranean area. This group is founded by the
initiative
of Arkitera Architecture Center (www.arkitera.net) and DARDUS
Universita
Politecnica delle Marche. (www.dardus.info)

The theme of the first meeting in Istanbul is "The Foreign Influence
in
Modern
and Contemporary Mediterranean Architecture". Researchers from
various
countries may present their studies with poster presentations based
on
this
theme. Apart from that, presentations of member institutions ranging
from Italy
to Egypt will take place within this meeting, where different
institutions may
show their activities to their colleagues. The first meeting
structure
is
organized as a more informal meeting
where the establishment of ICAM-MED may start.

There will be an educational workshop by AzWien (www.azw.at) also
within the
meeting program. Students of a high school in Istanbul will take
pace
in this
workshop with instructors from Az Wien and Istanbul Technical
University. The
purpose of the workshop is to give the initiative to young people
for
designing
a part of their everyday environment.

We call architectural museums, archives or institutions to join this
special
work group within the Mediterranean area and participate into this
valuable
experience in Istanbul. We strongly believe that this collaboration
will have
efficient results among the countries who share the same regional
and
cultural
conditions and contribute to the upgrading of architectural culture
worldwide.
