[ Sofia Exhibitions ]

Weeks of European architecture in Bulgaria are opened since yesterday at the National Gallery for Foreign Art

Until 30 June 2007 there is an interesting exhibition of Zaha Hadid.

The Bulgarian audience has the chance to see for the first time a model of one of the most memorable works of the artist – a modern building in Montpellier giving shelter to the Culture and Sport Centre of the Herault Department in France. The exhibition also presents photos of the most emblematic projects of Zaha Hadid in the field of architecture and urban development.

This initiative is caused by the idea of interaction between different architectural styles and the impossibility a national culture to stay in isolation. A series of exhibitions and lectures of world famous architects is planned. Names as Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel, Rem Koolhaas, Rudy Ricciotti will be presented for the first time in Bulgaria. An exhibition with Mies van der Rohe nominee architectural works for 2007 will also take place in Sofia at the end of this year.

Welcome to the [Sofia] weblog, a part of the Kakanien Revisited weblog network. The Team - Dimiter, Assen and Mira - all three PhD students in the Department of History and Theory of Culture at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" will try to create an image - although sometimes a faceted and incoherent one - of the Bulgarian academia, culture, ongoing events, ideas, realities and virtual spaces. All of you - our readers - are warmheartedly invited to join us in this endeavor with your comments and suggestions.
