International Conference "Meeting the Challenge: Perspectives of the project financed research and project oriented research institutions in SEE",
Sofia, 23-24.11.2006

Fostering of R&D activities in South-Eastern Europe and strengthening of the integration in the European Research Area is accompanied by the
confrontation with competitive research funding. Manifold opportunities have been opened for researchers and various research institutions.
What are the perspectives of research organisations in South-Eastern Europe?

The research priorities are established in line with the Lisbon
targets, but not all institutions with their disciplines take an advantageous
position in the ongoing dynamic process. There are several key
questions lain at the root of the critical discussion on competitive research
funding, especially in South-Eastern Europe. The Conference aims to
through light on the up-to-date usual practise of the project-oriented
research funding and the impact of funding opportunities on the research
organisations and individual scientists. Within the framework of the call

The 2-days event is organized jointly by the Centre for Science Studies
& History of Science (CSSHS), Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
(Prof.Dr.Sc. Kostadinka Simeonova, Director of the Centre) and the Austrian
Science and Research Liaison Office Sofia (ASO Sofia).

Please, note that presentation submitted for the call for papers
received after the deadline of 1 October 2006 will not be considered. The
list of the Conference speakers will be announced by 6 October 2006. ASO
Sofia will cover the conference participation costs for a limited number
of experts from SEE.
