Aleksandr Sokurovs Telec/Der Stier im Kontext des historisch-biografischen Leninfilms

Autoren

Bettina Lange,  Berlin

The article deals with Aleksandr Sokurovs Taurus (2001) in the context of historico-biographical Lenin films. Taurus reinterpretes canonical scenes and motives and especially concentrates on the political and filmic discourse of the mutual incarnation of Lenin and the people. Sokurov reduces Lenin to a mere biological being, to his decaying body without any metaphorical meaning. This seemingly intimate and individual picture of the political leader is at the same time neglected, because the film re-stages only canonical images and does not aim at creating a new, alternative image of Lenin. The eclipse of different images of Lenin, which are contigent and can suspend each other, is mirrored in the multiple perspectives of the film. In this way, Sokurov demonstrates the impossibility of a filmic portrait of Lenin.
