Kakanien Revisited was hosted on a server at the University of Vienna, since May 2013 it is hosted by Meta-Ware and runs as an application inside the java-based framework Helma. Its data are stored in a MySQL database, the application itself is programmed in server side javascript.

Helma is being developed in Austria. The Austrian broadcast corporation (ORF) runs some of its online sites with Helma and  a number of blogging platforms use Helma (www.antville.org).

 The layout is rendered by means of the excellent CSS framework YAML.
