Montenegro Blues: Does Balkan Art Exist?

Der Beitrag analysiert den konstruierten und konkurrierenden kulturellen Austausch zwischen Westeuropa und dem Balkan und problematisiert die westeuropäische Sicht auf den vom Balkan stammenden kulturellen Inhalt. Am Beispiel künstlerischer und kultureller Erzeugnisse aus Montengro gibt der Verfasser eine kritische Einschätzung von deren Rolle innerhalb eines Prozesses der Entwicklung / Bestärkung der westeuropäischen Ansicht über die homogene Natur der sog. Balkan-Kunst wieder.
This article analyzes the constructed and contested character of the cultural exchange between Western Europe and the Balkans, and problematizes the Western European view of the cultural content produced in the Balkans. While analyzing artistic and cultural products created in Montenegro the author critically assesses their role in the process of shaping / re-confirming the Western European notions of the homogeneous nature of the so-called Balkan Art.
