The study focuses on the first phase of modern literary studies in Croatia, i.e. on the period between 1955, when the first programmatic texts of the so-called Zagreb School were published, and 1964, when Aleksandar Flaker and Zdenko Skreb to a certain extent completed its constitutional phase by publishing their book Stilovi i razdoblja (Styles and Periods).
