Denkmäler und Denkmalensembles, national codierte Plätze und Straßennamen können als bewusst gesetzte Zeichen im öffentlichen Raum definiert werden, denen zumeist ein auf ein Kollektiv bezogenes Narrativ eingeschrieben ist. Sie sind somit als absichtsvolle Visualisierungen einer erwünschten bzw. verordneten kollektiven Identität bzw. kollektiver Gedächtniskulturen analysierbar. Zugleich dient der öffentliche Raum auch der Formierung politischer Öffentlichkeiten.
Zweck der Konferenz und der daraus hervorgehenden Publikation ist eine theoretisch-methodische und empirische Erfassung solcher Phänomene, insbesondere im zentral- und ostmitteleuropäischen Raum während der letzten zwei Jahrhunderte.
Památníky a soubory památníků, národně kódované názvy náměstí a ulic mohou být definovány jako vědomě ustanovená znamení v rámci veřejného prostoru, do kterých je vepsán kolektivní příběh. Dají se proto analyzovat jako záměrné vizualizace chtěné nebo nařízené kolektivní identity příp. kolektivní paměti. Veřejný prostor slouží zároveň k formování politické veřejnosti. Účelem konference a připravované následné publikace je teoreticko-metodické a empirické uchopení těchto fenoménů především v oblasti střední a východní Evropy během posledních dvou století.
Monuments and ensembles of monuments, national encoded squares and street-names can be defined as consciously produced signs in the public sphere; most times they are part of a collective "narrative" and can be analysed as visualisations of a wished or ordered collective identity or collective memory. But the public space is also the area for staging a political public.
Aim of the conference and the following publication is a theoretical-methodological and empirical analysis of these phenomena, esp. in Central- and Eastern Europe of the last two centuries.
