The Emergence of the Geography of Networks

Hauptziel des Beitrags ist es, zu einer Definition der Geografie von Netzwerken zu gelangen, ihre wesentlichen Begriffe und Ansatzpunkte zu klären sowie ihre hauptsächlichen Bereiche nachzuzeichnen. Dabei wird v.a. eine Konzeptualisierung der Netzwerke aus der Raumperspektive entwickelt. Dieser Ansatzpunkt wird nicht nur deshalb gewählt, weil Netzwerke derzeit expandieren und qualitative Fortschritte machen, sondern auch unter Bezugnahme auf die spezifischen Erscheinungsformen der elementaren philosophischen Kategorien 'Zeit' und 'Raum' im Hinblick auf Netzwerke.
The main aim of this article is the definition of the geography of networks, revelation of its principal notions and approaches and the delineation of its main domains. The distinguishing feature of this paper is the conceptualisation of networks from the spatial perspective. This point of view is applied not only for the sake of the expected boom and qualitative advancements of networks but also with regard to the specific features of the elementary philosophical categories of 'time' and 'space' in the framework of networks.
