Die Konferenz wird sich schwerpunktmäßig den vergessenen Kolonisations- und Dekolonisationsprozessen in Europa widmen. Dabei geht es nicht zuletzt um Migration, Sprach- und Kulturkonflikte, ethnische Mischungen ('Hybridisierungsprozesse'), um Privilegien, die in den symbolischen Systemen der Hoch- und Alltagskultur sowie in der Politik ihren Niederschlag gefunden haben. Die Konferenz möchte dabei nicht zuletzt literaturtheoretische, linguistische, medienwissenschaftliche und historische Perspektiven zusammenbringen und den Zusammenhang zwischen Formen der Herrschaft und Formen der kulturellen Symbolisierung sichtbar machen.
Einreichschluss ist der 15. September 2003.
The conference will be devoted to the forgotten processes of colonisation and de-colonisation in Europe. It will focus on migration, on linguistic and cultural conflicts, ethnic mixes, ('hybridisation' processes), on privileges which are reflected in the symbolic systems of "high" and everyday culture as well as in politics. The conference would also like to bring together perspectives drawn from literary theory, linguistics, media studies and history and make visible the connections between forms of ruling power and the expression of cultural symbols.
