European Integration After World War II: The Way to the Treaties of Rome

Der Beitrag konzentriert sich auf die ersten Schritte der Europäischen Integration. Dabei wird argumentativ dargelegt, dass die Entstehung der heutigen Europäischen Union als einer qualitativ vollkommenen Neuerung innerhalb des globalen Rahmens komplex und schwierig war. Der Verfasser arbeitet die wichtigstens politischen, ökonomischen sowie Sicherheits- und Rechtsaspekte heraus, die die Integration entweder vorangetrieben oder unterbrochen haben. Diese Konzeptualisierung der Entwicklung der Europäischen Integration berücksichtigt die Widersprüche zwischen generellen Proklamationen und Taten. So wird geschlossen, dass der Pariser Vertrag und die Verträge von Rom eine grundlegende Rolle während der Anfangsphase der Europäischen Einigung gespielt haben.
The paper focuses on the first steps of European integration. It is argued that nowadays European Union as a completely new quality within the global framework experienced a rather complex birth. The author discloses the most important political, economic, security and legal aspects and continuities that worked as driving forces of the integration on the one hand and those that acted as a braking factors on the other. The suggested conceptualisation of the evolution of European integration reflects the discrepancies between general proclamations and deeds. It is concluded that the Treaty of Paris and the Treaties of Rome played a principal role during the initial stage of the European unification.
