Was aus der Mitte flüchtet. Sind Weblogs Archive des "schwebenden Urteils"?

Welche Eigenschaften von Weblogs nähren gegenwärtig erneut die vielgestaltigen Hoffnungen, das Internet führe quasi automatisch zu einer Demokratisierung von Wissen und Kommunikation? Was macht Weblogs zu Institutionen des "schwebenden Urteils" und wie ist es um ihre (Selbst)beschreibung als Archive des Randständigen bestellt? These dieses Beitrags ist, dass Weblogs nicht per se "Emergenzen am Rande" sind sondern vielmehr – und das scheint symptomatisch für die Rhetorik von Medienwechseln im Zeitalter der Aufmerksamkeitsökonomie – den Wunsch von längst in der kulturellen Mitte Angekommenen nach einer Existenz an den Rändern, einen Wunsch nach Selbstmarginalisierung ausdrücken.
Which properties of weblogs inspire the recently renewed diverse hopes that the internet could practically by default lead to a democratisation of knowledge and communication? What ist it that turns weblogs into institutions of "suspended judgement" and what about their (self)definition as archives of the marginal? This article supports the thesis that weblogs are not per se a case of "Emergence at the Margins" but rather - this apparently being symptomatic for the rhetoric of media change in the age of attention economics - express the wish of those who have long arrived at the cultural centre to lead an existence at the margins; they express a desire for selfmarginalisation.
