centrope exhibitions

Vienna is often called the “Gateway to the East”. Yet there is currently no sustained exhibition practice at museum level promoting East-West artistic exchange. While Central Europe has become increasingly connected economically, cultural memory within the region remains fragmented, despite the twenty odd years that have elapsed since the Iron Curtain was lifted. Among the goals of the curatorial office centrope exhibitions is to explore coherences and divergences within this closely connected, multi-lingual and multi-cultural region in the heart of Europe. It is the aim to break down traditional geographical and disciplinary boundaries, and to create synergies by linking institutions and scholars from an array of international locales. centrope exhibitions plans to realize projects which foster cultural exchange among the nations of the urban triangle of Prague-Vienna-Budapest.
