Bericht über den 7. Workshop des SFB Moderne, der im März 2000 in Krakau/Kraków abgehalten wurde.
Der Workshop thematisierte das Konzept der "Modernisierung" als komplexe Verbindung von Prozessen wie Rationalisierung, Mechanisierung, Urbanisierung, Demokratisierung, Säkularisierung, zunehmender sozialer Mobilität, aber auch Veränderungen der Wahrnehmungsmodi. Im Mittelpunkt der Diskussionen stand die Notwendigkeit, "Modernisierung" als diskursives Konstrukt in Selbstbeschreibungen der "Moderne" zu untersuchen, wobei den Kunstwissenschaften ebenso große Bedeutung zukommt wie dem "klassischen" sozialwissenschaftlichen Zugang.
Report on the 7th workshop organised by the special research group Modernism - Vienna and Central Europe around 1900 (SFB Moderne) at Krákow in March 2000.
Primary subject of the workshop was the concept of "modernization" as complex connection of processes like rationalization, mechanization, urbanization, democratization, secularization, increase of social mobility, but also change of the modi of perception. In the centre of the discussions was the necessity to examine "modernization" as discoursively produced construct in self-descriptions of "modernity". In this context as great importance is due to the sciences of art as to the "classical" approach of the social sciences.
