The following text documents the interdisciplinary project "Iconographies of Memory - Places of Memory Dealing with the Totalitarian Past in Lithuania, Romania and Germany" (March 2005-March 2006). Students from the three countries with different specializations did research on how places of memory that deal with the national socialist and the socialist period of each country are constructed: Which events and persons are remembered? Which forms of topographic, architectonic and aesthetic representation can be found? What kind of myths and symbols are dominant within collective memory?

The article gives a summary of the project's results focussing on intercultural aspects, as well as to the trinational project group's experiences.
