Since the last ten years the economization of life caused a lot of unrest, since it forced men to heighten their professional as well as their private flexibility to a hitherto unknown degree. Thus, the question of construction of identity of the "flexible man" has come to the fore. With his agenda of a critical rationalism, Karl Popper opened the way to a new image of identity: Where no certain knowledge or theories exist, identification with singular meanings can only be temporarily and therefore becomes inattractive. What's left, is transfering identification to a methodological level: Alone the methods of gaining knowledge guarantee stability. Thus, the "flexible man" gains his (meta-)identity through creatively solving the most different problems. On the other hand he carries the concept of the modernistic avantgardist to the extreme and hence clarifies the frequently overlooked deep connections between capitalistic production and the field of culture.
