Habsburg postcolonial. Machtstrukturen und kollektives Gedächtnis

Autoren

Johannes Feichtinger / Ursula Prutsch / Moritz Csáky,  Wien

The Habsburg monarchy has not been a colonial power in a narrow sense. Yet, within this federation of countries which were economically, socially and culturally developed to quite differing degrees mechanisms of "internal colonisation" can be explored. Therefore, methods from Postcolonial Theory can be applied. Within the framework of analysing historical, socio-cultural and economic processes in Austria, Hungary, Galicia, Bukovina, Silesia, Moravia, Bosnia, the Hercegovina and Yugoslavia the following questions shall be answered: How do power claims become manifest in the politics of ecnomy, society and education? How are the former relations of ruling and power collectively remembered in the light of the emerging nation states? Which roles did religious denominations and nationalism play? Can the politic of language enacted by the central power be understood as internal colonisation?
