Since the year 2000 a research team at the Institute for Ethnology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Bratislava, Slovakia) has been working on the topic of Modernization Processes in Slovakia from Ethnological Point of View. On the one hand we understand modernization processes as being the techno-logical and economical development phases which have dramatically altered the way and quality of life of the people in Europe during the last 150–200 years. On the other hand modernization processes are being stu-died as cultural (mental) development trends which have a profound influence on the culture and the environment of the people. The "transitions" from traditional to modern socie-ties are scrutinized as complex and ambivalent processes.
