Individual and Collective Mécénat and the Culture of Public Donation in Central Europe, 19th-20th Century

Die Konferenz beschäftigt sich mit den verschiedenen Formen des Mäzenatentums. Neben dem traditionell-individuellen wird auch dem kollektiven Aspekt, der im Kontext der nationalen Identität eine bedeutende Rolle spielte, ein wichtiger Stellenwert zugewiesen. Die Veranstalter versuchen, einen neuen Blick auf die Fragestellung zu werfen, indem sie die Entstehung und Funktion des Mäzenatentums beleuchten und diese in der gesellschaftlichen Umgebung verorten. Als Fallbeispiel dienen die Aktivitäten des tschechischen Mäzens Josef Hlávka.

The conference deals with the various forms of patronage. In addition to the traditional focus on the individual, an important position is also assigned to the role of the collective, which in the context of national identity played a significant role. The organizers are seeking to bring a fresh perspective to the issue, by shedding light on the origins and function of patronage and placing them within the social environment. The activities of the Czech patron Josef Hlávka serve as a case study.
