Forbidden/Forbidding Words//(M)Other Words signifies a network of literary and academic projects, initiated by Tzveta Sofronieva, and dealing with the memory of words, the power of lingustic memory in the communication between different cultures and the insights into language offered by multilingualism.

Linguistic (Un)Certainty
To what extent can language be interpreted as a homeland, if it still steadily encumbered with cultural, political remembrance, and interpersonal restrictions and obstacles? Are the different narratives a hindrance or is their knowledge rather a prerequisite for intercontextual communication? Does the questioning of memory traces of words contribute to clarify the confusion in language or does it lead to new uncertainty? What is the role of exophonic writing and of multilingualism in the globalization of knowledge?

The essay by Peter Zajac explores the question of to what extent the perception of the Other and the Foreign is influenced by images in the boradest sense of the word. The making of stereotypes plays an eminent role in it, as far as, on the one hand, they assure the transfer of different semantics, but, on the other, they serve as negative foil for meanings and interpretations thwarting them.
