This paper is to be understood as an excerpt from a longer-term work that aims to re-address the terms 'Remembrance' and 'Memory', which are so frequently misused in the cultural sciences. This will take place in particular against the background of the developments in new media and in the realm of network theories. Amongst others, central questions are those of problems and differentiations that emerge, symbolic structures, socially effective formats of remembering and mediators in the media, "stores" that have been so apostrophised and finally also potential perspectives for research. Communication and its conditions, as well as the materiality of media of remembering - meaning their quality as far as the reconstruction of the past is concerned - play an essential role here.
