Based on examples of the Czech language travel literature, the study explores elements of Panslavism which appealed to to the national Renaissance movements and resorted to Johann Gottfried Herder's thoughts on the philosophy of history. By adding a slight touch of  irony, the study finds that certain mythologems of the "Slavic idea" have a strong affinity with subsequent nationalistic and totalitarian ideologems.
