Interkulturalität in Texten tschechischer Liedermacher (Vladimír Merta – Jaromír Nohavica)

Autoren

Stefan Simonek,  Wien

The paper presents some of the intercultural and intertextual strategies Vladimír Merta and Jaromír Nohavica, two of the most popular Czech singer-songwriters of our time, used in order to integrate their songs into a wider cultural sphere beyond the borders of Czech culture alone. These intercultural devices of the two songwriters are demonstrated in the paper by the example of Nohavica’s songs Never more (which offers a distinct allusion in the direction of Edgar Allan Poe’s famous poem The Raven) and his Song of Těšín, which creates a somewhat nostalgic view on the intercultural ties in the Czech-Polish borderland of Silesia around 1900, which engulfed at that time also German and Jewish elements. Vladimír Merta, on the other hand, in his essays and songs opens up a dialog with the Russian singer-songwriter Bulat Okudzhava.

Never more Nohavici opakuje refrén Havrana E. A. Poea).
