Geisterlandschaft Galizien. Karl Emil Franzos, Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, Joseph Roth, Alfred Döblin, Bruno Schulz

Autoren

Roman Lach / Thomas Markwart,  Braunschweig, Berlin

Without intending to be exhaustive, in our essay we try to demonstrate based on selected authors and texts, how the "Galizien-Mythos" is constituted by Karl Emil Franzos and Leopold von Sacher Masoch as an utopian potential, that is written into the landscape and continues even after the disappearance of Austrian rule. Joseph Roth, Alfred Döblin and Bruno Schulz update the myth as galician sequel, which echos and varies certain motives and ideas ("the mud", "the mystical space"). By this, the galician literature-landscape after all is created as chimaera, which, even detached from kakanian reality, proves obstinacy still with Andrzej Stasiuk and Juri Andruchowytsch. This developement generates an intertextual web, behind which the territory is more and more unseizable: a phantom landscape.
