Muslimische Landschaften. Hugo von Hofmannsthals Auseinandersetzung mit der Prosa Robert Michels

Autoren

Riccardo Concetti,  Wien, Perugia

A today forgotten "Austrian Kipling", the k.u.k. officer Robert Michel (1876-1957), born in Bohemia, published throughout his life short-stories and novels, dramas and two films based upon his military experiences in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In 1896, he met Hofmannsthal. Through the documents, which testify the latter’s influence on the literary evolution of Robert Michel, we will be able to follow the most significant phases of their friendship. Focussing on Hofmannsthal's wartime publications and Michel's contribution to them, as well as analysing the clichés of naivity and naturalness ascribed to this author we will recognize the collision of exoticism and patriotic discourses in literature and power.
