Das österreichische Bildungssystem zwischen 1749 und 1918

Dargestellt und analysiert wird die Geschichte des österreichischen Bildungssystems von der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts bis zum Zerfall der Habsburgermonarchie im Jahr 1918, wobei das Hauptaugenmerk dem mittleren und höheren Schulsystem gilt. Dargelegt wird die Geschichte der Bildungsinstitutionen und der jeweiligen bildungspolitischen Leitvorstellungen, sowie der politischen und sozialen Rahmenbedingungen. Genauer eingegangen wird auf den Zusammenhang von Bildungspolitik und Veränderungen im sozialen Gefüge, das Verhältnis von Geistes- und Naturwissenschaften innerhalb des Bildungssystems, die Frage der Bildungschancen für Frauen und die Politisierung der Bildungspolitik durch die zunehmenden Nationalitätenkonflikte innerhalb der Donaumonarchie.
The history of the Austrian educational-system in the period from the middle of the 18th century until 1918 is analyzed, with a special focus on higher education. The history of the institutions and the change of the guiding principles and the political and social environments will be described. The essay also focuses on the correlations between educational politics and social change, the different importance of humanities and natural sciences and the position of women within the educational system, as well as the influence of the conflicts of the nationalities.
