Vom Parnassus Ossolinius zur Nationalschatzkammer. Die Ossolińskische Bibliothek und ihr Gedächtniserbe

Die von Graf Józef Maximilian Ossoliński im 19. Jahrhundert als Privatstiftung gegründete Bibliothek Ossolineum birgt als Speicher des Gedächtnisses äußerst gegensätzliche Kodierungen in sich: Zum einen verweist sie auf eine universale Wissenschaftswelt, zum anderen sollte sie als Gedächtnisspeicher einer fürstlichen Dynastie dienen. Obwohl der Stifter seiner Bibliothek eine transnationale Bedeutung zu Grunde gelegt hatte, wurden sie seit dem 19. Jahrhundert im nationalen Sinn (kultur-)politisch instrumentalisiert.
The library Ossolineum, founded by Count Józef Maximilian Ossoliński as private foundation in the 19th century, holds extremely opposite codes in its function as storage of memory: On the one hand it should refer to a universal world of science, and on the other hand it should serve as a storage of memory of a princely dynasty. Although the founder himself had given his library a trans-national meaning, it has been used to gain (cultural and) political influence since the 19th century.
